Going GREEN with Ice River Green Bottle Co.

As a homeschool mom, I take every “learning” opportunity from our every day life that I can! So when I recently started buying water bottles from Ice River Green Bottle Co., I knew they were going to be a great topic to cover in “school”. During a recent nature walk, Parker asked for a sip of water. He knows we always come packed with a backpack full of snacks and water when we venture out on a hike. On that particular day I handed him the green water bottle and right away he started asking questions. Why is the bottle green? Does it taste different? Is that mouthwash?! Well I assured him it definitely was NOT mouthwash (but actually natural spring water found in Canada), and then we really started learning about this neat looking little green water bottle…

Ice River Green Bottle Co. makes their bottles from 100% recycled materials… and of course, those bottles are also 100% recyclable! So that means that their bottles are made from bottles! How cool is that?! They operate a recycling facility in a closed loop… from curbside collection, to recycled bottle manufacturing, to fresh natural spring water products...and back again. This process saves 5 million pounds of green plastic from going to landfills every year!

Learning about our world and what we can do to help is just the start. It’s so important to set a good example for our kids and have them involved in helping too. Here is the list Parker and I came up with that has 5 simple thing kids can do to help keep our world as green and as beautiful as possible!

  1. Know the difference between the blue bin, the green bin and compost. Make sure to always recycle or compost the correct things.

  2. Save energy by turning off the lights and electronic devices when they aren’t being used.

  3. Take care of the parks, beaches and mountains. Always make sure to never leave your trash behind.

  4. Save water! Make sure to turn the tap off when brushing your teeth (by leaving the tap on you can waste as much as 20 litres of water every time you brush!). Switching from baths to showers is also a great way to save water.

  5. Always respect and look after the animals, plants and trees around you.

Thanks so much to Ice River Green Bottle Co. for sparking this conversation and reminding us how important it is to take care of our planet. Have any kid-friendly tips you want to add? Share them in the comments below!
